PARIS - Slovenian Finance Minister Klemen Boštjančič visited the Slovenian House in Paris today. Together with the President of the Slovenian Olympic Committee, Franjo Bobinac, he promised to form a working group that will meet this fall to address open issues in sports. Boštjančič assured that key issues will be addressed next year. "The government shows genuine support for sports. Politicians like to boast about certain things, and sometimes it might even be better if they didn’t, but the support for sports is genuine. We have taken the next step in the discussions that started with meetings with Prime Minister Robert Golob and the relevant minister Matjaž Han," said Boštjančič.
JYVÄSKYLÄ - World Rally Champion Kalle Rovanperä (Toyota) leads before the final stage of the World Rally Championship event in Finland. In his hometown of Jyväskylä, he has a 44-second lead over his teammate, Frenchman Sébastien Ogier. The Finnish racing star is on track to end his home rally curse, as he has never won the Finnish WRC event. The championship leader, Belgian Thierry Neuville (Hyundai), trails Ogier by 39 seconds. However, there is no complete satisfaction at Toyota, as Welshman Elfyn Evans, who was second after Friday’s stage, had to significantly slow down due to suspension issues, losing over six minutes and ending up in 12th place after the penultimate stage.
SILVERSTONE - Spanish rider Jorge Martin (Pramac Ducati) finished second in the sprint race of the World Motorcycle Championship at Silverstone in Britain and closed to within one point of the championship leader, Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati), who finished the race without scoring any points after a crash. Martin finished second behind Enea Bastianini (Ducati), earning nine points and now totals 221 points, while Bagnaia remains at 222 points after today’s zero.
LJUBLJANA - Slovenian cycling star Primož Roglič, who had to abandon the Tour de France early after a severe fall in the 12th stage, is listed for the classic race in San Sebastián scheduled for next week, according to the website CyclingUpToDate. For the 34-year-old, this would be his first race after the serious fall and fractured vertebrae on the French tour.
