PARIS - At the Paralympic Games, which will take place in Paris from August 28 to September 8, 14 Slovenian athletes will compete in four disciplines. The team, which includes sitting volleyball players, two archers, one athlete, and one shooter, will be led by Boro Štrumbelj. Paralympic shooter Franček Gorazd Tiršek is heading to his fourth Paralympic Games, where he has already won four medals.
ST. PETERSBURG - Slovenian football player Vanja Drkušić has joined Zenit St. Petersburg, the Russian club announced on its website. Drkušić, who excelled in the Slovenian national team at the European Championship in Germany, signed a five-year contract with Zenit.
ARNHEM - Slovenian beach volleyball players Tjaša Kotnik and Tajda Lovšin lost their first match at the European Championship in the Netherlands. They had to concede defeat to the Czech pair Miroslava Dunárová and Daniela Mokrý, who won 21:19 and 21:13.
COURCHEVEL - Slovenian ski jumper Ema Klinec started the summer season with a victory. At the opening event of the Summer Grand Prix in Courchevel, the 26-year-old led after the first round and secured the win in the final with a significant margin of 11.8 points. Nika Prevc, who was second after the first round and last season's best jumper, dropped to sixth place in the final.
COURCHEVEL - Last winter’s top ski jumper Stefan Kraft won the first competition of the summer season, the Grand Prix in Courchevel. The Austrian claimed a convincing victory ahead of local jumper Valentin Foubert and Italian Alex Insam. Only two Slovenians scored points, with Žiga Jelar finishing 23rd and Žak Mogel 25th.
