CÁCERES - Slovenian cycling ace Primož Roglič (Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe) is the winner of the fourth stage of the Tour of Spain. On the challenging route from Plasencia to Pico Villuercasa (170.5 km), he was the best after a sprint from a smaller group at the top of the final climb. With this victory, the Kisovec native also took over the lead in the overall standings.
NEW YORK - Of the three Slovenian tennis players in the US Open qualifiers, only Veronika Erjavec advanced past the opening round. She defeated France's Manon Leonard in two sets, 6-2, 6-4. Tamara Zidanšek (149th) and Dalila Jakupović (218th) were both eliminated in the first of three qualifying rounds.
LAUSANNE - The Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne has rejected the appeal filed by Slovenian canoeist Benjamin Savšek and Uroš Mohorič, head of the Slovenian delegation in Paris, on behalf of the Slovenian Olympic Committee. The published decision means that the 50-second penalty for missed gates, which cost Savšek a medal, has been upheld.
LJUBLJANA - Crvena Zvezda footballers lost 1-2 against Bodö/Glimt in Norway in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League fourth qualifying round. Slovenian international Timi Max Elšnik played the entire match for the Serbian champions, while Vanja Drkušić, who recently transferred from Russia's Zenit, watched the game from the bench. Zagreb's Dinamo defeated Azerbaijan's Qarabag 3-0 at home, and France's Lille beat Czech Slavia Prague 2-0.
ROME - World No. 1 Italian Jannik Sinner tested positive in a doping test in April, but an independent investigation by the Tennis Anti-Doping Program has exonerated him, as the substance was unknowingly consumed through a product used by his physiotherapist, according to the press office of the Italian tennis player.
