BILBAO - Slovenian basketball player Zoran Dragić will continue his career in Bilbao. He will stay in the north of Spain for one season, the club announced on its website. Zoran Dragić, who played for Cedevita Olimpija since 2022, has previously played in the Spanish ACB league for Malaga (2012/2014) and Baskonia (2019/2021), with whom he also became the Spanish champion in 2020. In addition, he has experience in European competitions, having played eight seasons in the EuroLeague, five in the EuroCup, and one in the EuroChallenge, according to the Spanish club.

NYON - Slovenian football champion Celje has drawn potential opponents in the 4th qualifying round for the UEFA Europa League in Nyon. The Counts will play against the Irish team Shamrock Rovers in the 3rd round, and if they advance, they will face the loser of the Malmö - PAOK match. Celje will continue its European season in the Europa League qualifiers after being eliminated in the Champions League qualifiers by Slovan Bratislava. If they lose to the Irish team, they will move to the Conference League qualifiers and face the winner of the match between Ordabasi from Kazakhstan and Pyunik from Armenia. Maribor will face Serbian Vojvodina in the 3rd qualifying round for the Conference League, and if successful, they will be one step away from the Europa League, facing the winner of the tie between Finnish Ilves and Swedish Djurgården. Olimpija will play against Moldovan Sheriff in the 3rd qualifying round for the Conference League. Possible opponents for the Ljubljana team are Croatian Rijeka and Swedish Elfsborg, and Olimpija will face the loser of their match.

LJUBLJANA - Ljubljana's Olimpija footballers defeated Nafta 1903 2-0 (1-0) in the 3rd round of the Prva Liga Telemach. In the 4th round, Olimpija will visit Domžale on Sunday, while Nafta will host Primorje a day earlier.

LEIPZIG - French champion PSG footballer and Dutch international Xavi Simons will remain on loan at Leipzig for the new season, the club announced today. The 21-year-old Dutchman was already on loan at Leipzig last year, where Slovenian players Kevin Kampl and Benjamin Šeško are also members. He scored ten goals and provided 15 assists in 43 matches for the German club.

DORTMUND - German football international Niclas Füllkrug is moving from German Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund to West Ham in England. The 31-year-old striker has signed a contract until 2028, according to the English Premier League club. Transfermarkt reported that the transfer fee was 27 million euros.

PARIS - French football champion Paris Saint-Germain has officially confirmed the arrival of 19-year-old Portuguese midfielder João Neves. The former Benfica player has signed a contract until 2029, reported the French news agency AFP. Transfermarkt noted that the transfer fee for the Portuguese player was 60 million euros.

LJUBLJANA - Italian Jannik Sinner, who withdrew from the Olympic Games in Paris due to illness, remains the number 1 in the ATP world rankings. Newly crowned Olympic champion Novak Djokovic of Serbia is second, and Olympic silver medalist Carlos Alcaraz of Spain is third. Slovenia has only two players in the top 1000 of the world rankings. Bor Artnak has slipped to 440th place, and Blaž Rola is 839th.

LJUBLJANA - Iga Swiatek, who won bronze at the Olympic Games in Paris, remains firmly at the top of the WTA rankings. The Polish player withdrew from the tournament in Toronto last week due to exhaustion. American Coco Gauff is second, and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka is third. No Slovenian players participated in the Olympics, with Tamara Zidanšek being the highest-ranked Slovenian at 134th place.
