CELJE - The footballers of Celje won the first match of the 2nd qualifying round of the Europa League against Irish team Shamrock Rovers with a score of 1-0. The return match will take place next week.

MARIBOR - The footballers of Maribor won the first match of the 3rd qualifying round of the Conference League against Vojvodina with a score of 2-1. The return match will be held in a week in Serbia.

LJUBLJANA - The footballers of Olimpija won the first match of the 3rd qualifying round of the Conference League against Sheriff Tiraspol with a score of 3-0. The return match will take place in a week in Moldova.

LJUBLJANA - The Slovenian ice hockey team will face the Olympic qualifying tournament at the end of August and the beginning of September in Riga. Coach Edo Terglav today announced the extended roster of candidates for the tournament, where Slovenia will compete against France, Latvia, and Ukraine. Only the first place leads to the 2026 Olympics in Milan and Cortina. The Slovenian hockey players will gather for preparations in Bled on August 19, and before heading to Riga, they will play two friendly matches against Austria on August 22 in Bled and on August 24 in Kapfenberg. The roster does not include Slovenia's star player Anže Kopitar, who announced a month ago at a press conference that he would skip this campaign to fully focus on preparing for the new season in the world's top hockey league.

LJUBLJANA - The captains for Goran Dragić's farewell match on August 24 in Stožice will be Goran Dragić on one side and Luka Dončić on the other. Among others, Dirk Nowitzki, Chris Bosh, Luis Scola, and Dejan Bodiroga have confirmed their attendance in Ljubljana. The two-day event will include a charity gala dinner and team selection, followed by the main exhibition game featuring basketball stars.

LJUBLJANA - The Slovenian Basketball Federation conducted the draw for the Nova KBM League for the 2024/25 season. The first-round matchups are ECE Triglav vs. Šentjur, Krka vs. Terme Olimia, Kansai Helios vs. GGD Šenčur, Ilirija vs. Rogaška, and Zlatorog vs. LTH Castings. Eleven teams will participate in the Nova KBM League, with Cedevita Olimpija, the defending champions, joining the national championship in the spring quarterfinals. The competition will be played in a triple round-robin system. The team finishing last in the first stage will be relegated to the 2nd SKL, while the champion of the 2nd SKL will be promoted to the elite league. The first round is scheduled for September 28.

LISBON - Portuguese footballer Pepe has retired at the age of 41. He announced his decision in a video on the social network Instagram. The strong defender, originally from Brazil, came to Portugal at the age of 18 when he began his professional career at Maritimo, where he spent three years. He then played three seasons for Porto, ten for Real Madrid, one for Beşiktaş, and the last five years again at Porto. During his career, he won 27 club trophies, including three Champions League titles with Real Madrid. He made 141 appearances for the Portuguese national team, winning the 2016 European Championship.
