STOCKHOLM - Slovenian motocross rider Tim Gajser started the weekend successfully in Uddevalla, Sweden, where the World Championship race is taking place. With a victory in the qualifiers, he extended his lead over the first chaser in the MXGP class by one point, with Spaniard Jorge Prado now trailing by 25 points. The first race in the MXGP class at Uddevalla will take place on Sunday at 14:15, and the second will start at 17:10.
LJUBLJANA - The Slovenian women's volleyball team, preparing for the 2026 European Championship qualifiers, played friendly matches against Belgium in Ljubljana. They won the first match 3-1 (21, -17, 23, 21), and the second ended in a 2-2 draw (21, -19, 22, -19). The next test for the team will be on Friday and Saturday against Romania.
LENDAVA - In the 4th round of the Prva Liga Telemach, Nafta 1903 footballers lost to Primorje with 0-3 (0-2). Nafta will visit Koper in the 5th round on Saturday, while Primorje will host Domžale on Friday.
LONDON - English Premier League club Brentford has agreed with fellow Premier League club Liverpool for the transfer of Portuguese player Fabio Carvalho. According to the German news agency dpa, Brentford will pay Liverpool around 32 million euros.
LONDON - Wembley Stadium in London hosted the traditional curtain-raiser to the new English Premier League season. In the so-called Community Shield or Super Cup, the national champion Manchester City faced off against FA Cup winner Manchester United. Manchester City won after a penalty shootout.
SAN SEBASTIAN - Swiss cyclist Marc Hirschi won the 44th edition of the San Sebastian Classic in the absence of some of the biggest cycling stars. The 25-year-old won the sprint after 236 kilometers of Basque roads, beating two-time world champion Julian Alaphilippe of France. Belgian Lennert van Eetvelt finished third, seven seconds behind. There were no Slovenians in the race.
LONDON - English Premier League club Tottenham has signed striker Dominic Solanke. The 26-year-old has signed a contract until 2030, according to the official website of the London club. Tottenham paid Bournemouth 64.3 million euros for Solanke, according to Transfermarkt.
PARIS - German lawyer Thomas Bach, who has led the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since 2013, has announced that he will not seek a third presidential term in 2025, which would require an amendment to the Olympic Charter, according to the French news agency AFP.
